Latest Updates from Our Project:

40% Mark Passed!

Hello delightful backers!

We're overjoyed to share that we've reached a milestone - over the weekend, we hit 40% of our funding goal with 15 days left to go! Your incredible support and enthusiasm have propelled us forward, and we're deeply grateful for each and every one of you who has joined us on this adventure.

But we're still a fair ways from the finish line and we need your help to spread the word! With 15 days left on the clock, now is the perfect time to reach out to friends, family, and fellow history enthusiasts who share our passion for storytelling, games and bad ass women in history. Whether it's through a social media post, a heartfelt email, or a conversation over coffee, every share counts and brings us one step closer to making this joyful game available to a world that needs more joy!

Lumberjills Miniatures!?! Yes!

One of the things that I love about running Kickstarters is that once the word gets out, you connect with most excellent fellow nerds with overlapping interests! Enter backer Annie Norman the founder of Bad Squiddo Games! There, Annie hosts the largest collection of female miniatures (28mm) in the world, manufacturing kick ass women from history, fairytales, and the future!

War Birds fans who also have an interest in minis or wargaming should definitely check out her storefront. She's got minis of so many different women throughout history (and especially WWII) that I couldn't even name them all here! But take a look at her collection of jills!

I also feel like this mini (while not WTC specific) captures some of the joy of our Lumberjills game!

Thank you everyone for being a part of this - onward and upward, Lumberjills!

25% There!!

Thanks to all of you wonderful backers, the campaign has just passed the 25% funding goal!

I'm deeply grateful to all of you who have been sharing your enthusiasm on social media. Historically, the War Birds campaigns have succeeded on the word-of-mouth of it's backers, and if we succeed with Lumberjills, it will be no different. Please keep sharing as we've still got a ways to go!

As a immunocompromised designer who has not been able to attend conventions since the beginning of the pandemic, it has been particularly heartwarming to read past playtesters sharing their experience from the games they played in. While the earliest playtests happened almost a decade ago, it brings me immense joy to see folks still talking about it with a present warmth and fondness - a testament to the lasting affect of this mighty, wholesome game.

Your support means the world to me and we can't wait to make it past the finish line with you. <3

A Plague Among Us Add-On

I had a question come in regarding the campaign's add-on for A Plague Among Us and I thought I'd respond here for those who have already backed - and I also will add an entry to the FAQ about it.

A Plague Among Us is an award winning tabletop game about the Searchers of the Dead in The Great Plague of London. It was written during the lockdowns and was made available to play for free on Storysynth to prioritize giving access to folks in real time when most needed and most relevant. It is a game about the experience of living in pandemics - how they disproportionately affect the vulnerable, how they change us in slow and foundational ways, and how they affect our dreams of the future. It is also available for download as an ashcan on Itch.io

This game will never go to Kickstarter or receive a print run. While I believe in the game itself, I sense that as people have eagerly returned to public life that it would not be a viable campaign. As such, I am quietly doing a best effort attempt to edit it and lay it out on my own. I aim to put its final form up on DriveThruRPG with a print-on-demand deck for in-person play. The add-on in this campaign is intended to make sure that folks still deeply affected by the ongoing pandemic will receive an opportunity to acquire it at cost, since DriveThru doesn't give me a way to do that when it does become available.

For those who are not having to live Covid-Cautious lives, you will be able to purchase the game when it is available on DriveThruRPG. I didn't want to offer that as purchase option in this campaign because it will be best effort, not managed with professional layout services and not tied to the timeline of Lumberjills and it's fulfillment. We will let Lumberjills backers know when it comes available in case they are interested in purchasing it down the road.

Also, I caused a bit of confusion with my wording in the add-on text. It is described in different places as free and also as $1. I had intended to offer it for free and wrote the copy as such before realizing that Kickstarter required $1 as a minimum price point. Sorry for that!

Make A Scene

I wanted to take a moment to give a shout out to the lovely folks at Make a Scene! This festival, occurring August 16-18 in Minneapolis offers world-premieres of ten brand new larps a year, this year on the theme of "Make or Break Moments".  If you like chamber larps like Lumberjills, you'd likely also be interested in the larps offered here: short, beginner-friendly, and focused on an immersive emotional experience.

I mesh so well with Make a Scene that I premiered one of my historical games with them last year: The Candy Bar War, a game about the Canada-wide children's consumer strike in 1947. I was sad to have not been able to attend it in person, but from what I have heard, players had a phenomenal time with the game and at the festival.

If you're within striking distance of Minneapolis and like my work, I think you'll have a great time at Make a Scene!
